Sam plummeted/fell/crashed to the ground with a loud/sharp/painful thud/sound/crash.

Sam's New Friend
Sam was experiencing a little down. He hoped to have a new pal to play with. One day, while he was running in the park, he spotted something interesting. It was a little animal with bright scales. Sam quietly went up to the creature and asked, "Hello! What's your identity?" The creature laughed and replied Sam, "My name is Lily!" And so, Sam made a new companion. They spent the rest of the day talking together.
Sam was so happy to have found a new friend. He knew that he and Lily would be great pals forever.
